júde (júzi), s.m.1. În vechea organizare socială, judecător municipal care îndeplinea uneori şi funcţia de primar cu puteri limitate. Apare în Moldova, cu acest nume, din 1409; funcţia sa era pe viaţă şi se transmitea. – 2. În Munt., în sec. XVII, om liber. – 3. În textele religioase, domn, domnitor. – 4. Judecător, magistrat. – 5. (Trans.) Primar. – 6. Conducător, căpetenie a unei companii sau a unei bresle. – var. judec. lat. iūdex (Puşcariu 913; Candrea-Dens., 908; REW 4599; DAR), cf. alb. dzük, it. giudice, prov., cat. jutge, fr. juge, sp. juez, port. juiz. pl. vechi era judeci, din lat. iudices (cf. cap-capete, om-oameni), de unde s-a refăcut sing. analogic judec.
