FÍRE, firi, s.f. 1. Mediul natural (împreună cu fiinţele care trăiesc în el). ♢ loc. adv. Peste fire = extraordinar; în cel mai înalt grad. 2. Structură psihică şi morală a unei fiinţe; caracter, temperament. 3. Minte, cuget; cumpăt. ♢ loc. adj. În toată firea = ajuns la dezvoltare deplină, matur; în deplinătatea facultăţilor mintale, serios. ♢ expr. A-şi veni în fire = a-şi reveni (după un şoc, o emoţie puternică, un leşin). A scoate (pe cineva) din fire = a enerva (pe cineva), a înfuria, a scoate din sărite, din răbdări. A-şi ţine (sau a-şi păstra) firea = a se stăpâni, a-şi păstra cumpătul. A-şi pierde firea sau a se pierde cu firea = a nu se mai putea stăpâni, a-şi pierde cumpătul. A se prăpădi cu firea = a face tot posibilul; a se strădui; a se consuma foarte mult sufleteşte. – v. fi.
