DECADENTÍSM s.n. 1. Denumire generală pentru curentele antirealiste apărute în literatura şi arta claselor pe cale de dispariţie, caracterizate prin involuţie, regres sau disoluţie a valorii, prin ruperea din contextul celorlalte valori. 2. Curent, născut în Franţa la sfârşitul sec. XIX, care se supune rigidităţilor şcolii parnasiene şi în bună măsură naturalismului, apropiat ca formulă artistică de simbolism, în care, până la urmă, se va dizolva. [cf. fr. décadentisme, it. decadentismo].

XIX, caracterizate prin disoluţie a valorii, prin ruperea din contextul celorlalte valori. 2. mişcare literar-artistică europeană, caracterizată prin revolta împotriva rigidităţilor şcolii parnasiene, cultivarea brutală a inovaţiilor formale şi a senzaţiilor tari, prin rafinament stilistic ajuns la apogeu care se va dizolva în simbolism.
