PORÚMB, -Ă, (I 1, 2, II) porumbi, s.m., (III) porumbi, -e, adj., (I 3) porumburi, s.n. I. 1. s.m. Plantă din familia gramineelor, cu tulpina înaltă, puternică şi groasă, cu frunzele lungi şi ascuţite la vârf şi cu inflorescenţa un spic sau un panicul, cultivată ca plantă alimentară, industrială şi furajeră; păpuşoi, cucuruz, mălai (Zea mays). 2. s.m. Ştiuletele de porumb (I 1), împreună cu boabele de pe el; boabele desprinse de pe ştiulete. ♦ expr. A lua (cuiva) porumbul de pe foc = a dejuca planurile (cuiva), a-i face (cuiva) o festă. 3. s.n. Semănătură, lan de porumb (I 1); porumbişte. II. s.m. (pop.) Porumbel (I 1). III. adj. (pop.) De culoare cenuşie-albăstruie; (despre animale şi păsări) care are părul, lâna, penele de culoare cenuşie-albăstruie; porumbel (IV). – lat. palumbus.
