FÓTĂ, fote, s.f. 1. Parte componentă a costumului popular românesc (bogat ornamentată) purtată de femei, formată dintr-o ţesătură dreptunghiulară de lână care se petrece în jurul corpului, ţinând locul fustei, sau din două bucăţi de stofă acoperind partea din faţă a corpului (ca un şorţ) şi pe cea din spate. 2. (Rar) Şorţ purtat de cârciumari, de ospătari etc. – Din tc. fota.

fótă (fóte), s.f. – 1. (înv.) Şorţ. – 2. Fustă. – 3. Prosop. – Mr. fotă. tc. fota "prosop de baie care se încinge la brîu" (definit astfel de Diego Galán, Viajes, p. 110; Şeineanu, II, 174; Meyer 111; Lokotsch 622), cf. ngr. φουτᾶς, alb. futë, bg., sb. futa, port. fota (Eguilaz 400), it. futa (Battisti, III, 1741). Este fusta tipică portului ţărănesc, formată dintr-un dreptunghi de stofă cu care se înconjoară trupul. Este dublet al lui fotaz, s.n. (înv., valtrap), din ngr. (după Bogrea, Dacor., III, 730, din tc. cotaz "podoabă"). Din rom. provine rut. fota, fotka (Mikoosich, Wander., 10; Candrea, Elemente, 402; Berneker 287).
