CROTÁL I. s. m. şarpe veninos de talie mare din America tropicală, cu solzi cornoşi la coadă, care produc un sunet caracteristic; şarpe cu clopoţei. II. s. n. instrument de percuţie alcătuit dintr-o pereche de talgere mici de lemn sau metal, fixate în palme prin curele din piele, să puncteze ritmul de dans. (< fr. crotale, gr. crotalon)
