crap (crápi), s.m. – Peşte (Cyprinus carpio). -Mr., megl. crap. sb., bg. krap (Miklosich, Slaw. Elem., 16; Cihac, II, 81; Meyer 204; DAR); cf. slov., cr., alb. krap, rus. karp. Înainte s-a considerat reprezentant al lat. carpa (Diez, I, 114; Diez, Gramm., I, 32; Philippide, Principii, 66); însă această der. este puţin probabilă. Nu trebuie să se excludă, totuşi ipoteza că este un cuvînt autentic balcanic, căci în lat. cuvîntul este străin de fondul tradiţional, şi după Meillet-Ernout, este în legătură cu numele dacilor din Munţii Carpaţi.
