bomb- – Rădăcină expresivă onomatopeică, ce reprezintă ideea unui zgomot confuz şi neîncetat, şi în general a unui zumzet. Creaţie spontană, proprie multor limbi, cf gr. βόμβος, lat. bombus, bombire, bombizare, sl. bǫbnǫti "a bate toba". Der. bombăni (var. bombăi, bomboni, bumbă(n)i), vb. (a bombăni, a bodogăni; a certa, a dojeni), pe care Miklosich, Slaw. Elem., 16; Lexicon, 54; şi Byhan, JB, IV, 305, încearcă să-l explice prin sl. bǫbnǫti; bombăneală, s.f. (bombăneală, mîrîială); bombănitor, adj. (care mîrîie); bombănitură, s.f. (mîrîială); bombar, s.m. (bondar, bărzăun); bondăni, bondări, vb. (a zumzăi; a bodogăni); bondăneală, s.f. (zumzet); bondar (var. băndar, bîndar, bundar), s.m. (bondar, bărzăun); bonzăi, vb. (a zumzăi); bonzălău, s.m. (tăune (tăun)); bonzar, s.m. (bondar, bărzăun); dondăni, vb. (a bombăni, a bodogăni); dondăneală, s.f. (mîrîială). Bombar şi bondar sînt fără îndoială un singur cuvînt; totuşi, REW 1199 derivă pe bombar din lat. bombus şi REW 1203a îl derivă pe bondar de la bond-. cf. şi mr. bumbar, megl. bumbăr, din bg. b(r)umbar, creaţie care poate fi la fel de bine der. din rom., sau spontană, ca ngr. μπούμπουνας "viespe", μπουμπουνάρης "bondar".
