boáşe (-şe), s.f. – Testicul. var. boş. Megl. boş, istr. boş. Origine necunoscută. Etimonul lat. byrsa "pungă", propus de Diez, nu este posibil. Puşcariu 210 (şi DAR) a încercat să depăşească dificultatea, presupunînd o formă *byrsea, care nu este însă nici ea satisfăcătoare. Ar putea fi tc. boş "gol", cu acelaşi sens ca deşert, cf. fr. creux de l’estomac (din tc. provine şi mr. boşă "gol"); dar vechimea cuvîntului (apare la Dosoftei) şi semantismul lui, identic în dialecte, se opun acestei explicaţii. Der. boşar, s.m. (pepene galben); boşorog, adj. (care suferă de hernie, surpat; plantă, Scleranthus annuus), care pare formaţie glumeaţă, pe baza lui boaşe şi olog, modificată ca în şontorog; boşorogi, vb. (a deşela, a speti; a ologi); boşorogeală, s.f. (hernie; decrepitudine). Trebuie de asemenea să presupunem că boşorog, care circulă numai în Munt. (ALR 125), a suferit probabil influenţa formală a sb. bosonog "desculţ".
