A otrăvi. – Mr. adep,, megl. dap, istr. adŏpu. < lat. ădaquāre (Puşcariu 20; REW 147; DAR); cf. it. adacquare (salent. dakware, bar. adakwe), prov. azaigar, v. fr. aever (fr. din Vest aiguer, cf. Gamillscheg 20). Sensul 4, astăzi rar, se bazează pe confuzia între "băutură" şi "otravă", cf. fr. poison (‹ potionem). Der. adăpat, s.n. (acţiunea de a adăpa); adăpătoare, s.f. (loc de adăpat); adăpător, adj. (care adapă); adăpătură, s.f. (înv., otrăvire).
