VENDÉTĂ, vendete, s.f. Act de răzbunare sângeroasă pentru o injurie, un omor, divulgarea unui secret etc., frecvent în Corsica şi Sicilia, care se extinde şi se transmite asupra tuturor rudelor victimei, obligate să se răzbune cu orice preţ; p. ext. ură puternică, sete de răzbunare nestăpânită. – Din it. vendetta.
