jind (-duri), s.n. – Dorinţă adîncă, poftă. sl. *žęždĭ, žęžda "sete" cu disimilarea ž...ž. Se consideră în general că este vorba de un postverbal de la jindui, vb. (a dori, a-i fi dor, a pofti, a avea chef), care ar reprezenta un sl. *žędovati, der. de la žędati "a dori" (Cihac, II, 159; Conev 88; Byhan 341; DAR), care de asemenea pare posibil. – Der. jinduitor, adj. (rîvnitor, însetat); jinduială, s.f. (chef, privaţiune; dorinţă neîmplinită).
